The Story of a Witch: Part Two

Then, the girl-witch began to see out of

The corners of her eyes.

Her nose looked under violet leafs for fairies and

Pulled her down to

Where the water runs free.

The ears inside her skull heard whispered knowings which

Pulled her down into the truth

Of her flesh.

She began to walk with her hands swinging free

Pulling the sparkle of the grass

 into her palms.

She would look around wide-eyed,

Uncertain and pleading,

Does anyone else feel this sparkle?

Hear those knowings?

See those fairies?

Usually, then,

Her eyes cast sharply downward and the people all around were

Silent.

At the uneasy shake of their heads,

The girl-witch’s sparkly palms and aching body demanded

And thundered,

Forget Me, At Your Own Peril.

So eventually,

the girl-witch stopped asking the silence,

And instead, began to listen.

And remember.
